The Classical Langtang Valley Family Trek is a beautiful trekking adventure that takes trekkers into the heart of “the valley of glaciers”. In addition to the cultural and natural marvels of the trek, the trails are perfectly suited for families. The classical Langtang Valley Family Trek gradually increases in altitude as a result trekkers can easily cope with the atmosphere on the trip. It is a journey that is filled with amazing terrains, mesmerizing Himalayan views, and unique ethnic culture. The trek is fairly moderate and allows people of all age groups to enjoy the magnificence of the Langtang Himalayas. Along with the beautiful views of the majestic Langtang Lirung (7227m), the trekking journey takes you through the Langtang National Park which home to diverse wildlife and vegetation.

The Classical Langtang Valley Family Trek begins with a drive to the settlement of Syabrubensi and includes the trail passing through the valley’s many ethnic settlements, like Langtang, Thulo Syabru and Dhunche among others. The trekking trail meanders through the jade-tinctured pine and maple woodlands towards highlights like the Kyanjin Gompa and the vantage point of the Kyanjin Ri. Throughout the trekking journey, trekkers are presented with a chance to experience the ethnic culture of the valley’s people. The traditions and customs of the indigenous people are manifested in various Chortens and Gumbas along the way. The towering spires of the Stupas are often laden with colorful prayer flags and they contrast magnificently against the ivory peaks of the valley.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu 1400m (4600 ft)
You may arrive in Kathmandu at any time. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by one of our airport representatives. He will help you get transferred to the Hotel. There are no planned activities for the day, so you may check into the hotel and relax. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubensi 1503m (4931 ft) by private vehicle
From Kathmandu, you will be driving to Sybrubensi today. The drive is filled with sights of Nepal’s countryside and includes many natural beauties like Cliff-side waterfalls and swiftly flowing rivers like the Trishuli. Passing by vast terrace farms of mustard and rice, you will finally reach Syabrubensi, going through the village of Dhunche along the way where you will get your first sight of the Ganesh Himal. Overnight in Syabrubensi.

Day 3: Trek from Syabrubensi to Lama Hotel 2410m (7906 ft)
Syabrubensi is the starting point of the Langtang Valley Trek. From here, you will hike towards the Bhote Koshi River and cross the Langtang Khola via suspension bridges. Gradually climbing uphill, you will be passing through bamboo and pine woods to reach a landslide area. Carefully traversing though the area of landslides, you will reach the village of Ramche, which is situated at the banks of the Langtang Khola. Here, you can try out the local delicacy of deep-fried fish hunted from the river. Further on out from Ramche, the trail passes by waterfalls and cascading rivers towards the settlement of Gumanechok where the Lama Hotel is located. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Day 4: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang 3430m (11,253 ft)
Leaving Lama Hotel, you will be trekking towards the Langtang village today. You will hike through a rather steep pathway that presents amazing views of the Langtang Lirung Mountain. Eventually, the path steadies and reached the settlement f Ghoda Tabela. Walking past the dotted lodges here, you will follow the trail that opens out towards a wide pasture laden with grazing yaks. Here, you can see a myriad of Tamang houses and a water-driven mill. Crossing a stream, you will finally reach the Langtang village for an overnights stay. Overnight in Langtang village.

Day 5: Trek from Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa 3830m (12,565 ft)
From the Langtang village, you will trek towards the highlight of the trekking journey- the Kyanjin Gompa, today. Ascending towards the settlement of Mundu along the way, you will go through villages like Yamphu before reaching the Gompa. The trekking trail passes through many rivers, the most notable being the Laja Khola, a swiftly flowing river of melted glacial ice. Climbing up the moraine after the Khola, you will finally reach the Kyanjin Gompa, located dramatically at the foothill of the Langtang Lirung peak. The village of Kyanjin is one of the last settlements of the Langtang valley. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 6: Explore to Kyanjin Ri View Point 4600m (15,091 ft)
Today, you will be climbing up to the vantage point of the Kyanjin Ri. The vantage point is located near the Gompa and the climb is a bit difficult but isn’t too technical. From the top of the peak, you will be greeted with panoramic views of the Langtang Valley and of the mountain peaks that surround it, like the Langtang Lirung, the Ganesh Himal and the Dorje Lakpa. After spending time at the vantage point, you will return to the guesthouse. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 7: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel 2410m (7906 ft)
From the village of Kyanjin, you will retrace your steps back towards the Lama Hotel. The descent is easier than the ascend and you will be able to cover twice the distance as you did climbing up the hill. Following the path going through the emerald woodlands, you will finally stop at Lama Hotel. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Day 8: Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru 2210m (7250 ft)
From the Lama Hotel, you will have a leisurely trek to Thulo Syabru today. It is a small hamlet that is situated near Sybrubensi and gives good views of the mountain peaks. The settlement is peaceful and you can see many traditional houses here, with cattle and yaks grazing bout. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.

Day 9: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Dhunche 1960m (6430 ft)
Retracing your steps, you will be trekking along the same path as you did at the beginning of the trek to hike back to Dhunche. The trek is calm and is encompassed with natural beauties paired with mesmerizing Himalayan views. Overnight in Dhunche.

From Dhunche, you will bid goodbye to the Langtang Himal one last time as you drive back to Kathmandu. Upon arriving back at the capital, you will be dropped off at Hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.
