There are two types of Nepali visa available (i.e. Tourist visa and Gratis Visa) for touristic or short-term purpose.  It can be easily obtained on upon arrival at the TribhuvanInternational Airport or from the nearby Nepali diplomatic missions in your country.  To obtain a visa on arrival,you are required to fill up an on-arrival form along with a tourist visa form and submit a valid passport with a passport sized- photo. Getting a SIM card is a must especially when going for a trek during your trip to Nepal. This is because the remote high altitude settlements and trekking destinations might not always have the facility of Wi-Fi. So, SIM cards allow you to have easy and reliable access to the internet and communicate. There are two major mobile service providers in the country: Nepal Telecom and Ncell. The mobile network coverage is quite good in Nepal even in some rural areas.

In Nepal, the climatic condition and temperature variations along with the change in altitude. The southern plain region of Nepal also known as Terai usually remains sunny and mild with pleasantly warm temperature during winter but is usually cold at night. The average temperature is around 15 °C during January and by March it may rise considerably up to 40 °C. The temperature at the capital(Kathmandu) along with the other central regions (around 1400 meters) of the country is moderate. The average January temperature is close to 11°C. There are 3 major trekking grades for trekking in Nepal and the requirement for physical fitnessvaries as per the change in the grade of trekking destination. Grade 1 is considered pretty easy and can be embarked by any age group. It consists of no more than 5 hours of the daily walk. Grade 2 trek is moderate and the walk is a combination of rough and steep trails. A decent level of physical fitness is a must. Similarly,grade 3 trekking is strenuous, and it involves trekking around an altitude of 5000 meters.Therefore, anyone going on such trek must be fully prepared with great physical fitness, health conditions, and knowledge on the use of mountaineering equipment.

AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) is a major challenge faced while going on a trek to the higher altitude. It usually starts at an altitude of 2400 m from the sea level because of the change in atmospheric pressure and lack of acclimatization time. The most common symptoms of AMS include dizziness, nausea, shortening of breath, and headache. These symptoms are usually mild and get treated on their own. But in the rare case, the disease may worsen affecting the lungs and brain.

So, in cases of severe conditions, emergency evacuation is a must. The most common evacuation procedure is through helicopter. Although evacuation via helicopter might be more expensive, itis the fastest and the most convenient way. So, having a travel and medical insurance that covers emergency evacuation using a helicopter is also a must while trekking in Nepal.

An appropriate medical aid pack is a must for trekking.   • Neck warmer
  • Foot warmer, etc.

All major Credit Cards (MasterCard, VISA, and American Express) are accepted in Nepal. Yet, it can only be used in hotels, restaurants, and banks in major cities. ATMs are available throughout the country. However, in rural areas, ATMs might not be available or working 24/7. While ATMs do serve your need for immediate and easy withdrawal of cash, you should not over-rely on ATMs. Carrying adequate cash to use in cases of emergencies is always a wise choice.
