Description

The Larkya Peak Climbing journey takes you all the way to the summit of the Larkya Peak that traverses through quaint Tibetan-Buddhist settlements and alien-like landscape. The Larkya Peak has only recently become a hit in the mainstream media, but veteran trekkers and travelers know the real identity of this peak. Battle the extreme isolation of Mother Nature and mow down frosty winds and glacial terrain to conquer the Larkya Peak Climbing trip and after completing it, save it in memory that will last all eternity.

The Larkya Peak Climbing Trip takes 20 days to complete and you commence from Kathmandu, where you need to make necessary permits and documents to enter the Manaslu Conservation Area. While your document gets ready, you visit the historic and famous landmarks of Kathmandu. The next day, you proceed towards Soti Khola via Prithivi Highway and from there you officially start to trek. The first stop is Khorlabesi, which you reach by crossing Lapubesi and Machha Khola. Move ahead to arrive at the hot springs of Tatopani and after relaxing there, we make a stop at the lively town of Jagat. Buy some essentials and forge your way through the lush forests and Gandaki River to arrive at Deng. You have now officially entered the Nupri valley. The view of Siringi Himal from the flatlands of Philim is extremely relaxing. Walk along with small villages that proudly display their Mani walls and prayer flags. After learning the antiquities in Namrung and Samagaon, we reach the Manaslu base camp. Relish at the sight of the Manaslu Mountain and its neighboring peaks before heading to Samagaon. As we walk along the banks of the Budi Gandaki river, we can see the Birendra Tal which stands in solitude. Take a quick breather in Larkya Phedi and share pleasantry with fellow travelers in Dharmashala. Conserve your energy and the next day, head out on to conquer the Larkya peak by going through the base camp to high camp. After summiting the Larkya Peak, we head back to the base camp and cross the deadly Larkya La pass. On the other side of the pass lies Bimthang which is a great place to relax. The trail heads down to Tilje via the Karche La Pass and it further descends to Jagat where we shall get on a ride back to Kathmandu which signals the end of this trip.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
As per your scheduled flight, you will arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Our company’s representatives are there to warmly welcome you and guide you to the hotel. You refresh and relax. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Restricted Area Permit and Climbing Permit procedure
Since you’ll be entering a restricted area, you need to have the necessary permit and documents. So, we’ll be preparing the permits. Our staffs will handle the official works and in the meantime, you join our tour guide for Kathmandu sightseeing. You will visit the Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath stupa. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola 730m by 4W private vehicle | 6-7 hrs.
You will have an early breakfast and then proceed towards Soti Khola. From Kathmandu, you follow the Prithivi Highway and from Benighat, you start to follow the banks of Budhi Gandaki River and go north. En route, you pass by villages like Morder and Salyantar that are situated among the hills filled with lush vegetation and forests of the western region. As you approach Soti Khola, the road gets bumpy and dusty. Overnight in Soti Khola.

Day 04: Trek from Soti Khola to Khorlabesi 970m | 5 hrs.
From today onwards you start to trek. The first destination is Khorlabesi. You hit the trail after breakfast and walk along the Soti Khola. You cross the suspension bridge and walk through dense forests. Then you come across Lapubesi, a beautiful small village inhabited by Gurungs. The next village you come across is Machha Khola and a short trek from there will take you to Khorlabesi. Overnight in Khorlabesi.

Day 05: Trek from Khorlabesi to Jagat 1370m | 5-6 hrs.
You have your breakfast before starting your trek. The trail sees a slight change in elevation. After crossing the Tharo Khola, you come to Tatopani, which is famous for its natural hot springs. You relax there for some time and then resume your trek. You will cross the Budhi Gandaki River to reach Dovan, a narrow valley. From there, you climb the staircases to enter Jagat, the gateway to Manaslu Conservation Area, Overnight in Jagat.

Day 06: Trek from Jagat to Deng 1860m | 6-7 hrs.
You start early today after having a quick breakfast. The first stop in today’s trail is Salleri, from where you can see amazing views of Shringi Himal. Then you cross Ghatta Khola via a suspension bridge to reach Philim which is another Gurung settlement. You have your lunch there and then you will continue the trek. You enter Nupri Valley after leaving Philim and you cross few suspension bridges to reach Deng. It is an ancient settlement in the wilderness of Manaslu. Overnight in Deng.

Day 07: Trek from Deng to Namrung 2540m | 5-6 hrs.
You hit the trail after having your breakfast. Today, you will see canyons at various points of the trail. You pass settlement areas like Rana and Bhi and then walk through dense rhododendron forests. Then you reach Ghap for lunch. The route provides an amazing display of Mani walls and prayer flags. The trail continues along Sarang Khola before you reach Namrung for overnight stay. The residents at Namrung are mostly Buddhists. Overnight in Namrung.

Day 08: Trek from Namrung to Sama Gaon 3390m | 6- 7 hrs.
You have an early breakfast and hit the trail. The trail ascends to Mani walls and rhododendron forests. You walk along the Budhi Gandaki River and you see scenic views of Shringi Himal and first glimpse of Mt. Manaslu. Then you continue to Lihi which is famous for its barley fields. You come across Lho and explore the monastery there and continue till you reach Sama Gaon. There are many prayer flags that decorate the village premises. Overnight in Samagaon.

Day 09: Hike to Manaslu Base Camp 4400m | 6-7 hrs.
Today you hike to Manaslu Base Camp. You have your breakfast at dawn, and take the trail that goes through a thick birch forest. You then have to cross small stream via a wooden bridge. From here onwards, you can get spectacular views of the Manaslu Mountain. Once you reach basecamp, you can explore it for a few hours. You will head back to Samagaon after exploring the base camp. Overnight in Samagaon.

Day 10: Trek from Sama Gaon to Samdo 3690m | 3-4 hrs.
You have your breakfast and explore the village quickly before starting to trek. Then you depart towards the trail that goes through Birendra Tal and crosses juniper forests. You climb the terraced hills on the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River to enter Samdo, one of the remote permanent settlement areas of this region. After enjoying some scenic hill landscapes, you reach Samdo. Overnight in Samdo.

Day 11: Trek from Samdo to Dharmashala 4460m | 4-5 hrs.
You have your breakfast and walk along the trails of the Budhi Gandaki River. En route, you get to see Mani walls and scenic views of the river and hills. Then you walk through a dense forest and reach the Tibetan settlement area, Dharmashala also known as Larke Phedi. It is the last stop before the Larkya Peak. From here, you can get an amazing view of the Manaslu, Larkya and the neighboring peaks. Overnight in Dharmashala.

Day 12: Trek from Dharmashala to Larkya Peak Base Camp 5170m | 5-6 hrs.
Today, after breakfast, you ascend to Larkya Peak Base Camp. The trail goes through an area filled with moraines and glaciers. This region is also known as Larkya Glaciers. Then you come across four frozen lakes and then ascend to cross the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m), from where you can see gorgeous views of the Annapurna range. From there, you reach the base camp shortly. Overnight in Larkya Peak Base Camp.

Day 13: Trek from Base Camp to High Camp 5650m | 4-5 hrs.
You gradually ascend to higher altitudes via a narrow and rocky trail, which gets difficult with each climb. You need to cross steep channels and icy trails to reach the high camp. Once you reach there, you set up camps for an overnight stay. To acclimatize, you can explore the surrounding areas to get splendid views of the Larkya peak and the neighboring peaks like Manaslu. Overnight in High Camp.

Day 14: Summit Larkya Peak 6416m and back to Base Camp 5170m |6-7 hrs.
To avoid mid-day strong winds, you wake up at dawn and prepare for the climb. You have light breakfast and follow your guide to the summit. The trail is narrow and steep. You eventually reach the top from where you can see breathtaking views of the Manaslu range and the surrounding areas. After enjoying the view, you head back to the Larkya Base Camp. Overnight in Larkya Base Camp.

Day 15: Reserve day for bad weather
This day is kept extra in the itinerary in case of bad weather. In the high Himalayas, the weather can get unpredictable which might be a huge setback in the trip. You need to be prepared for such delays and be ready at the base camp. If the weather is stable, the rest of the itinerary will go ahead as scheduled. Overnight in Base Camp.

Day 16: Trek from Base Camp to Bimtang 3590m via Larkya La Pass 5160m |5-6 hrs.
You have your breakfast and you’ll start the trek to Bimtang. You ascend to higher elevations where you can observe moraines and glaciers. From there, you reach the Larkya La Pass where you can have panoramic views of Himlung Himal, Cheol Himal, and even the Annapurna range. Then you descend through trial filled with moraines to Bimthang, which is a big valley surrounded by mountains. Overnight in Bimthang.

Day 17: Trek from Bimtang to Tilje 2300m | 4-5 hrs.
From today, the trail descends as you reach the last leg of the trip. First, the trail ascends gently to agricultural lands and settlement areas until you reach Karche La Pass. From there, you get a spectacular view of Larkya peak and the neighboring mountains. Then you descend to forests filled with rhododendron and figs. En route, you enjoy the lush greenery and hilly landscape. We arrive at Tilje which is a small Gurung village. Overnight in Tilje.

Day 18: Trek from Tilje to Jagat 1300m | 6-7 hrs.
You have your breakfast and you start descending to lower elevations. You cross Dudh Khola via a suspension bridge and reach various settlement areas like Dharapani and Kotro. You follow the trail via the banks of Marsayangdi River and reach Tal, where you will have lunch. Then you pass by teahouses and shops and reach Chamje. From Chamje, the next stop is Jagat. Overnight in Jagat.

Day 19: Drive from Jagat to Kathmandu by 4W private vehicle |7 hrs.
Today is your last day of trek. You have your breakfast and head towards Kathmandu via road. Enjoy the hilly landscape and lush vegetation on the way. Once you reach Kathmandu, you transfer to your hotel and refresh. You can do shopping or relax. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 20: Departure from Kathmandu
Today is the last day of your trip. Make sure that you have all your personal belongings with you. Our staff will drop you off at the airport as per your flight. Before you go, we would like to hear about your experience with the company’s package and staffs.
