Situated in the remote western region of Nepal, Lower Dolpo Trek offers the visitors with the incredible experience of the beautiful site of Shey Phoksundo Lake. The main attraction of this trekking journey is Phoksundo Lake and the route passes through the hidden and remote trekking trails. This area is inhabited by the Buddhist and Bon Po communities who were originated from the Tibet and they have a very unique Tibetan lifestyle. The trek provides us with the life experience in the isolated mountains which almost resembles the highlands of the Tibet.
Our Journey to Lower Dolpo region starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then to Juphal which is also our starting point of the trek. Trekking to Dunai and further ahead, we reach Laini Odar. Continuing on the trail, we head to Toltol and then to Dho Tarap. After a brief stop in the village, the trek proceeds to Numa La Base Camp and also crosses Numa La Pass (5310m). Relishing a panorama of Annapurna and Chure Nimal range, we make way to Temche crossing another high altitude pass, Baga La Pass (5170m) on the way. Trek to Ringmo Gaon offers insight into Bon religion and then the exploration of the majestic Phoksundo Lake awaits us. From here, the trek descends and reaches Juphal from where a flight takes us to Nepalgunj and another one takes us to Kathmandu. An average level of fitness will be required for the trekkers to accomplish this trekking journey. Lower Dolpo region not only conserves its natural beauty but it is also conserving the spiritual tenderness of the Tibetan culture. The wide variety of flora and faunas thriving in the Shey Phoksundo National Park is also a treat to nature lovers.
