Description

Dudh Kunda and Salpa Pass Trek are one of the most fascinating and easy treks in the Everest region gradually traversing into Makalu region. We will get a chance to encounter the unique culture and preserved flora and faunas of this region. Salpa Pass trek takes us through the ancient path used for trading in Solukhumbu region. We will not only experience the beautiful nature but also we will encounter the preserved spiritual values of this region.

Our journey to Dudh Kunda and Salpa Pass Trek initiates with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri and further to Shivalaya. The trail leads us to Bhandar and Sete villages leading to Junbesi. From Junbesi, we can visit the Thupten Chholing monastery which is a revered monastery of the region. Continuing ahead, we arrive at Yak Kharka with lush meadows and pasture lands and then head to the famous Dudh Kunda famous for its crystal clear water and mesmerizing view of the surrounding Himalayas from here. From Dudh Kunda, the trek heads too Ringmu village and then to Tibetan Camp at Sallari. Further, the trail heads to Budhidanda and to Magar and Rai village of Gudel. The trek officially reaches Makalu region and further on the trek, we head to Salpa Phedi. Crossing Salpa Bhanjyang, which offers great scenic views, we move towards Gothe Bazaar and then to Kattike Ghat. A final day trek takes us to Tumlingtar and a flight brings us back to Kathmandu valley marking the end of the trek. This trekking is best suited for the adventure lover who seeks adventure through the ancient trails in the Himalayas. Also, the trek presents the great assimilation of vegetation and wildlife to add to the already magnificent trek. A good fitness level is required to accomplish this journey.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Kathmandu 
On your arrival at Tribhuvan International airport, one of our representatives will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel. After refreshment at the hotel if you would like you can visit our office and complete the remaining formalities. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Shivalaya by Bus 1790m
We leave Kathmandu in the early morning. We will travel on the tourist bus and head east. A scenic drive along Lamosangu, Charikot and then to Jiri will nearly take us 8-9 hours. From Jiri, we will drive to Shivalaya. A scenic drive for about four hours along the green valleys and villages will take us Shivalaya. It is situated on the bank of Khimti River. Overnight stay at Shivalaya.

Day 3: Shivalaya to Bhandar 2190m
Today it will be our first day of climbing we will climb for about 2 hours steeply uphill to Sangbadanda and then continue along the ascending trail for more two hours to reach Deurali. We will see a few hotels and tea houses at this place. From Deurali we will steeply descend for another one and half hours to reach Bhandar. Overnight stay at Bhandar.

Day 4: Bhandar to Sete
Traversing and climbing along the villages and rivers for three hours we will reach Kenja. It will be a short and easy day walk. Kenja is another beautiful village in this area and is situated on the bank of a river. We will continue to climb uphill to Sete. The climb will be around 3 hours long and we will see the beautiful river valleys on the way to Sete. Overnight stay at Sete.

Day 5: Sete to Junbesi 2700m
After having our breakfast at Sete we will head further towards Junbesi. The trail continues to ascend uphill for one hour and take us to Dakchu and then to Goyom and finally to Lamjura Pass which is at the height of 3530 m which provides us with the beautiful mountain views. From Lamjura pas we will descend steeply to Junbesi. Overnight stay at Junbesi.

Day 6: Junbesi to Yak Kharka 3840m
The trails are mostly ascending and today we will ascend along the most magical forested area to Yak Kharka. Initially, the trail follows the bank of the river and then we will cross an old Buddhist monastery called Thupten Chholing monastery. From here, we will continue to trek along the ascending trail up to Yak Kharka. Overnight stay at Yak Kharka.

Day 7: Yak Kharka to Dudh Kunda 4,593m
We will follow the trail passing through verdant landscapes and dense forests to Sasar bensi. We will have our lunch here and then we will start to climb steeply from here to Dudh Kunda. It is a famous holy lake situated at the height of 4,593m from sea level. Enjoying the beautiful landscapes, blue water lake surrounded by high mountains and green valleys, we will capture those moments and explore the area. Overnight stay at Dudh Kunda.

Day 8: Dudh Kunda to Ringmu 2720m
We will get up early, view the morning sunrise, and descend along the trail to the Sasar Beni. It is a small valley having few cow sheds with the views of many snow-capped mountains we will continue to hike along the descending trail through the dense forests until we will reach Ringmu. Ringmu is a local village with few houses and guesthouse. Overnight stay at Ringmu.

Day 9: Ringmu to Sallari Tibetan Camp 2500m
Leaving Ringmu behind, we will follow the ascending trail to Tibetan Camp. A 6-7 hours long trek along the ascending trail passing Yak pastures will take us to Tibetan Camp. It is an old camp rich in culture and tradition. We will find the villagers nearby making handicraft things. We will visit the museum. Overnight stay at Tibetan Camp.

Day 10: Tibetan Camp to Budhidanda 1800m
In the early morning, we will head along the uneven trail passing through the verdant landscape descending to Budhidanda. It is a long day walk and it will almost take us 7-8 hours. Enjoying the beautiful views of the high snow-capped mountains, farmlands and green Yak pasture fields we will reach Budhidanda. Overnight stay at Budhidanda.

Day 11: Budhidanda to Sotang 1600m
The trail leaving Budhidanda is decorated with forests of rhododendron and oak. The trail will be pleasant and offers a great array of bio-diversity of the region. We also pass Sherpa settlements on the way and these humble souls will greet you will smile every time. After steady walking for a few hours, we arrive at Sotang. Sotang is a rural municipality in Solukhumbu region. Overnight stay at Sotang.

Day 12: Sotang to Gudel 2068m
We will continue to walk along the trail passing through beautiful and green forests. Then the trail becomes steeper and difficult until we reach the top and find the towering mountains close to us. Enjoying the views we will trek for the last few hours until we will reach our destination Gudel. Overnight stay at Gudel.

Day 13: Gudel to Sanam 2800m
In the early morning, we will start to descend through the wide road along the hillside. We will cross many buffalo huts, terraced fields and the villages of Rai on our way. After a few hours of walk, we will reach the beautiful and traditional monastery called Nimtsola Gompa and we will further descend to Duire. We will walk further to reach Sanam. Overnight stay at Sanam.

Day 14: Sanam to Salpa Pass to Salpa Phedi 2760m
Our trail initiates with along the forested areas of Salpa Pass also known as Salpa Bhanjyang. The beautiful views of the Salpa Lake and the surroundings await us. Enjoying the magnificent views of the Himalayas like Mt Kanchenjunga (8586m), Makalu (8463m), Mera Peak (6364m), Everest (8848m) and the beautiful Salpa Lake, we will descend along the verdant landscapes to Irkhuwa and continuing further ahead, we will reach our destination Salpa Phedi. Overnight stay at Salpa Phedi.

Day 15: Salpa Phedi to Gothe Bazaar 1128m
It is a short day walk. We will walk across the bank of the river on the stones and then ascend further to the ridge. From here, we will a bamboo bridge over a river and continue to climb across the ridges and descends to Dobhan. From Dobhan we will continue along the trail and we will cross many bridges over Benkhuwa Khola, farmlands, forested areas before reaching the Gothe Bazaar. Overnight stay at Gothe Bazaar.

Day 16: Gothe Bazaar to Kattike Ghat 457m
After having our lunch at Gothe Bazaar, we will continue along the northern bank of Irkhuwa Khola along the farmlands and then we will ascend steeply to the whitewashed village called Chalise Nepali Danda. From here we will descend along the farmlands passing many Magar villages on our way to Kattike Ghat. Overnight stay at Kattike Ghat.

Day 17: Kattike Ghat to Tumlingtar 410m
The trail continues along the south-east bank of Arun River along the farmlands and few villages of Rai, Chettri, and Brahman ethnicities. An hour bank along the trail will lead us to Chewabesi. We will have our lunch here and then we will continue along the trail leading us to the village called Bheteni. Ascending a bit we will reach our destination Tumlingtar. Overnight stay at Tumlingtar.

Day 18: Tumlingtar by flight Kathmandu
After having our breakfast we will take an early morning flight to Kathmandu. A scenic flight over a variety of landscapes with the beautiful views of the high snow capped mountains will take us Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu we will transfer you to the hotel. You can rest and enjoy the amenities in the hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 19: Explore Kathmandu valley
Today will be our free day. After having our breakfast we will visit some traditional and beautiful sites in Kathmandu in our private vehicle with an experienced tour guide. We will visit the Pashupatinath Temple, the Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath temple and many more. In the evening we will return to our hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 20: Transfer to international airport
This is your last day in Kathmandu. We will drive you to the Tribhuvan International airport for your scheduled flight bidding you a final goodbye.
